Our city is going through a very challenging time. Some are grieving, some are hoping, and many are fearful and anxious about what is to come as we approach the trial of Derek Chauvin, the primary defendant in the killing of George Floyd. We believe that God is present and active even and especially in times of disorder and loss. We have all been involuntarily called to witness the injustices of the system of racial inequity and oppression. Now we are called to voluntarily be in prayer for God’s healing of our city.
To this end, on March 9 the Healing Our City Virtual Prayer Tent was launched through the technology of Zoom and Facebook Live. Begun as a community prayer gathering last summer in North Minneapolis, The Healing Our City Prayer Tent is now an initiative of the Center for Leadership and Neighborhood Engagement (CLNE), with whom Nokomis Heights has recently entered into partnership through our Opening Doors Campaign.
You are invited to join people of all faiths daily at 8:00 AM for a 20-minute prayer experience.
The morning prayer experience begins with a timely reflection by a different religious/spiritual leader each day, including our own Pastor Kris Capel. The reflection is followed by a period of 8 minutes and 46 seconds of silent prayer/meditation, and an invitation to offer your own prayers and thoughts in writing.
The prayer tent is expansive and inclusive, including people of all faiths, denominations, races, and orientations. Because it is a virtual prayer tent, it can include people from all over our nation and world—people who, like us, hunger for God’s healing in our city and everywhere. From this tent we will go out into our neighborhoods and into the daily lives of people who long for welcome, safety, and belonging. Let us walk boldly into the unpredictability of this human trial, walking in faith, holding hands, praying in solidarity and unity of spirit.
You may access the virtual prayer experience via ZOOM (go to https://www.healingourcity.org for the link)or as a livestream on the Healing Our City Facebook page.
If you cannot join the prayer experience live, it will also be available as a recording on the Healing Our City Facebook page.
