Nokomis Heights is a place for worship and a space for questions. We gather in all kinds of ways to talk about everything under the sun, and to look for ways we can help change the world. Below you’ll find some opportunities to get involved, and there are always new ones that turn up! Many of these groups are intergenerational, but you can also find activities especially geared toward children and families, and youth.
Also, at Nokomis Heights, we love our donuts. We love fellowship – all sorts of gatherings, especially with snacks. You are always invited. Please join us!

The Creation Care Team believes in protecting God’s creation from environmental damage, especially the
damage from carbon dioxide emissions that cause global warming.
They often recruit environmental speakers to present at Adult Forum. Two members of our team have provided test drives or their electric vehicles to people in the congregation – prompting three other families to purchase EVs! They also advocate for specific legislation and policies. One of their members recently participated in a rally at the Minnesota Capitol to lobby for passage of the 100% Clean Energy Act – and it passed!
They ordered a professional energy audit for Nokomis Heights and are following up on the recommendations. They’ve received a proposal to install solar panels on the church roof and planted two pollinator gardens.

The Racial Justice Team meets regularly to find ways for Nokomis Heights to hear and amplify the voices that often go unheard. They are currently planning to take a group on the Sacred Sites Tour to better understand the history of Indigenous people in Minnesota, and you can read the land acknowledgment statement they crafted here.

During Adult Forum, we love stretching our minds and discussing topics of life and faith. We bring in speakers to teach us about all kinds of topics. Speakers have included city representatives, leaders in the environmental and racial justice fields, and members of our own congregation with stories to tell.

Grab some coffee or your lunch and join us on Zoom every Wednesday at noon for the Wednesday Lunch Break Bible Study! Pastor Kristen, Pastor Steve, or our pastoral intern Yesenia will lead a discussion about our texts for the upcoming weekend. No experience is required! This isn’t ever a test about how much you “know.” It’s a discussion about our own lived experience with these ancient words. There are no wrong answers and we are true to our tagline: a space for questions.

Quilters and Stitchers gather regularly at Nokomis Heights to make quilts for an annual quilt sale and to donate to Our Saviour’s Shelter, Lutheran Social Service (for its refugee settlement and for Camp Noah), and the New Hope Center (MetroHope Recovery Ministries residence for men). They also make a quilt for each child baptized at Nokomis Heights.
