Although it’s still happening on Thanksgiving morning, the Walk to End Hunger is virtual this year. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, high rates of job losses, and unprecedented economic uncertainty, we are seeing the rates of food insecurity rise. Right now, 1 in 8 Minnesotans are experiencing hunger. In 2019, it was 1 in 11.

Your donation to the Walk to End Hunger is more important than ever before.

The South Minneapolis Meals on Wheels Team hopes to raise $5,000 in donations (which will be generously matched by the umbrella organization, Metro Meals on Wheels) giving us a potential of $10,000 this year! These funds will extend our capacity to serve more clients and update our equipment.

Making a donation takes 4 easy steps:

  1. Go to http://bit.ly/SMMOW and beneath the thermometer, click “Donate to Team”.
  2. Choose the amount you want to donate.
    1. If the amount you want to donate is not there, click “Other” and fill in the blank. Small and large donations are greatly appreciated.
  3. Complete the required personal information and any other information you want to add.
  4. Complete the payment information and then click “Complete Donation”

What makes this virtual?

On Thanksgiving Morning at 10:00 am, a 30 minute program focusing on hunger in Minnesota, an introduction to our partner organizations, entertainment, cooking segments, activities and more will be broadcast live on both the Walk to End Hunger YouTube channel, and on the Walk to End Hunger’s Facebook page.  We hope you will tune in! “The Kids Table,” a children’s focused program, will immediately follow the virtual event with entertainment and activities for the kids at home.
