Sunday Worship on the Lawn
July 31, 2022 / 10:00 am – 11:00 am CDT
Join us as we continue our summer sermon series, “Remember, You Were Strangers.” Intern Yesenia Morales Bahena is preaching this week on the story of the Holy Family’s escape by night from Herod’s threat, seeking safety in the land of Egypt.
Scripture is as full of refugees and immigrants as is the daily newspaper. Their stories make us uncomfortable, even angry. But what if that terrified refugee family, that unwelcome immigrant were the the infant Jesus and his parents? We don’t often dwell on that part of the Nativity story. Yet, for the first years of his life, Jesus and his family were unwelcome travelers, strangers in a strange land. Sometimes refugees—running from. Sometimes immigrants—running toward.
Worship will take place on the front lawn at 10:00 am. Please bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on. In the case of inclement weather, we will meet for worship in the sanctuary. As COVID is still with us, we are still asking everyone over the age of 2 to wear a mask inside the church building to protect unvaccinated children and other vulnerable populations.
