Join us for worship as we continue our Lenten journey under the theme Wandering Heart. This Lent, we are focusing on the life and faith of one of Jesus’ most famous disciples—Peter. In Peter, we see a person who is both steadfast and unsteady, a dear friend and a betrayer, a follower and a wanderer. In Peter, we often see ourselves. By following Peter’s journey, we watch the story of Jesus unfold through the eyes of a very normal human trying to figure it all out—just like us.

As we were studying Peter’s faith journey, the lyrics of “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing” came to mind. It’s as if Peter himself wrote this song. And so, for each step in Peter’s journey, we have selected a phrase from this hymn. As we follow Peter’s story, we will sing our way through Lent, binding our wandering hearts to God. This week, the focus is on “Rescue me from danger.” In our scripture passage for this Sunday, Peter is out on a boat with the disciples when a storm hits. Instead of cowering in fear, Peter spots Jesus on the water and bravely crawls out of the boat to move closer to Christ.

We are pleased to welcome David Scherer and Joe Davis from JUSTmove to worship this Sunday. They will be bringing us the message this week, and following worship, they will also lead us in the fourth of a series of workshops having to do with interculturality and antiracism. Únase a nosotros para la adoración mientras continuamos nuestro viaje cuaresmal bajo el tema Corazón errante. Esta Cuaresma, nos estamos enfocando en la vida y la fe de uno de los discípulos más famosos de Jesús: Pedro. En Pedro, vemos a una persona que es firme e inestable, un querido amigo y un traidor, un seguidor y un errante. En Pedro, a menudo nos vemos a nosotros mismos. Al seguir el viaje de Pedro, vemos la historia de Jesús desarrollarse a través de los ojos de un humano muy normal tratando de resolverlo todo, al igual que nosotros.

Mientras estudiábamos el viaje de fe de Pedro, la letra de “Ven a fundar toda bendición” vino a la mente. Es como si el propio Peter escribiera esta canción. Y así, para cada paso en el viaje de Pedro, hemos seleccionado una frase de este himno. Al seguir la historia de Pedro, cantaremos nuestro camino a través de la Cuaresma, atando nuestros corazones errantes a Dios. Esta semana, el enfoque está en “Rescátame del peligro”. En nuestro pasaje de las Escrituras para este domingo, Pedro está en un bote con los discípulos cuando una tormenta golpea. En lugar de acurrucarse en el miedo, Pedro ve a Jesús en el agua y se arrastra valientemente fuera de la barca para acercarse a Cristo.
