Sunday Forum: Blessed are the meek?! The role of biblical meekness in civil discourse
November 3, 2019 / 9:00 am –10:00 am CST
“Meek” did not mean “weak” in the biblical worlds, as the stories of Moses and Jesus demonstrate. Moses was tagged as “the meekest man on the face of the earth” (Numbers 12:3); Jesus self-identifies as “meek and humble of heart” (Matthew 11:29). Guest presenter Dr. Marty Stortz will help us examine what these examples of biblical meekness have to tell us today about civil discourse.
Marty Stortz is the Bernhard M. Christensen Professor of Religion and Vocation at Augsburg University in Minneapolis, a position she has held since 2010. Prior to coming to Augsburg University, she had been a professor of historical theology and ethics at Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary/The Graduate Union in Berkeley, California for almost thirty years. She holds a BA from Carleton College in English, an MA and PhD from the University of Chicago Divinity School.
The public is invited to Sunday Forum. Coffee and treats will be served.
