When we think about food shelves and soup kitchens, we often think only of hunger issues in the urban setting. But food insecurity is everywhere—even in affluent suburbs. Join us as we hear  from Jason Viana, Executive Director of The Open Door, the largest and most innovative Food Shelf in Dakota County. With 10 community gardens and nearly 30 Mobile Food sites, their combination of programs provide fresh and healthy food to more than 7,000 people each month. Jason will provide an overview of The Open Door’s mission and impact while offering attendees a deeper dive into the realities of suburban poverty. From employment and wage trends to broad health disparities he will provide a glimpse into the challenges facing hunger relief efforts.
