NHLC Book Club
June 24, 2021 / 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm CDT
The NHLC Book Club will meet Thursday, June 24, at 7:00 pm, in the church Courtyard. This month’s book selection is Circe, by Madeline Miller.
Circe tells the story of the daughter of Helios, god of the sun and mightiest of the Titans, who finds that her power of sorcery can transform rivals into monsters and menace the gods themselves. With vivid characters, mesmerizing language, and page-turning suspense, Circe weaves together family rivalry, palace intrigue, love and loss, and the celebration of indomitable female strength in a man’s world.
According to The New York Times, the novel is “a bold and subversive retelling of the goddess’s story that manages to be both epic and intimate in its scope, recasting the most infamous female figure from the Odyssey as a hero in her own right.”
