Honoring Sacred Waters Gathering
November 21, 2023 / 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm CST
In lieu of a Thanksgiving Eve worship this year, we invite you to participate in the “Honoring Sacred Waters Gathering,” in celebration and support of All Nations Indian Church and the Indigenous Peoples Task Force. The event takes place at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 2315 Chicago Ave., Minneapolis. Nokomis Heights is co-hosting this ecumenical gathering with a number of other churches.
The gathering will include a play called “We do it for the Water” by Sharon Day, performed by the Ikidowin Youth Acting Ensemble. This play weaves stories of Indigenous struggles to protect our water beginning with saving Camp Cold Water Spring, the Mother Earth Water Walks, the Nibi Walks, and the Dakota Access Pipeline. The water walkers and water protectors presented a non-violent message that united Native people and non-Native environmentalists. This project will continue the awareness of Indigenous rights and the capacity of the individual to take action for the environment.
A freewill offering will be collected to support the ministries of All Nations Indian Church. We will also collect material donations to support neighbors who are living in the Camp Nenookaasi encampment.
5:30pm – Fresh oven-fired pizza dinner
6:30pm – Honoring Sacred Waters Gathering, with a play by Ikidowin Youth Acting Ensemble from Indigenous Peoples Task Force
7:30pm – Pie
Parking can be tricky at Our Saviour’s. Leave plenty of time to find street parking along Chicago or Park Avenues. You may also find parking in the ramp that is between Chicago and Oakland on 24th, just West of the church.
