Iftar Invitations
Nokomis Heights has been invited to take part in two upcoming Iftar dinners! Iftar is the traditional breaking of the fast that is done from dawn to dusk every day during the holy month of Ramadan. By breaking the fast together, we can create greater understanding and build bridges of friendship with our Muslim neighbors.
• In an outpouring of friendship, ICSA/Dar Al-Hijrah has invited us and our Mission Partners—NHLC, Trinity Lutheran, St. Peders, and Mt. Olivet–Plymouth—to an Iftar on Wednesday, June 14, 7:30–10:00 p.m., at ICSA/Dar Al-Hijrah Mosque, 504 Cedar Ave., Minneapolis (next to Palmer’s Bar). There is no cost.
• Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota also invites us to an Iftar dinner on Thursday, June 15, beginning at 7 p.m., at The Center for Changing Lives, 2400 Park Ave., Minneapolis. This special Iftar dinner will be a time for supporters of newly arrived refugee families to get together, celebrate, and learn more about all the important resettlement services LSS is able to provide with the help of their support. It will also be a time to raise additional funds to directly support the families LSS works with. There will be a short presentation featuring Minnesota House Representative Ilhan Omar and then a meal at sunset. Afro Deli is catering, so it will definitely be delicious! Tickets for the dinner are $25 each. Please register online at http://www.lssmn.org/IftarDinner/.

Nokomis Builds in July
Can you believe Nokomis Builds is now in our 11th year? We have been graced with the opportunity to provide this important ministry with our partner churches to make a truly impactful difference in our community and provide homeownership to 10 families (and counting)! Thank you to everyone who has helped us get to this point! Nokomis Builds is a group of area churches (with Bethel Lutheran and Our Lady of Peace and St. Richard’s Catholic congregations), working under the Thrivent Builds project with Habitat for Humanity. We jointly provide volunteers for two weeks a year, with several opportunities for you to support this effort. TC Habitat is really excited about this 2017 build site at 2313 James Ave. N., in North Minneapolis, because it is a new more environmentally friendly construction plan. With this new approach, the jobsite volunteer max is 12 per day, rather than the normal 18 (plus 2 to 3 per day for lunch support).
Dates this year are:
• Monday-Friday, July 10-14
• Monday-Friday, July 17-21
We need:
• workers of all skill levels, age 16 and up
• lunch providers for 2-3 days (2-3 people per day is ideal)
• financial supporters for the $1,000 annual pledge to Nokomis Builds
Thank you for your past and continued support. Please help us fill this year’s volunteer positions as quickly as possible—hopefully before Memorial Day. Sign up in the Courtyard at church.
